Poul Kjærholm was born 1929 in Denmark. He started his career as a cabinetmaker in 1948, but then entered the Furniture Department at the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen. Later he came to work with E. Kold Christensen, who commissioned a number of subcontractors and workshops to manufacture Kjaerholm’s designs.

Kjaerholm is known for classical pieces, like the PK 22 chair and low tables like the PK 61. His style is minimalistic and his material of choice was steel, rather than wood. Kjærholm is one of the most important furniture designers from the modern era. His solutions for interfacing elements and materials are unique.
